Some Easy Ways to Transform Your Home
The concept that spring is a time of rebirth often has people antsy to make a change in their surroundings. Perhaps it’s the bursting blossoms outdoors, the drab tree limbs filling in with fresh green leaves or the gray skies turning to blue, but spring makes us rethink our surroundings. After many winter months hunkered down in the same environment, the itch to make a change may be from a little bit of boredom too. But, how can you spruce up your home without breaking the bank? There are several ways to transform your home and add some zing back into your place. And, you’d be surprised how some of these minor changes really add personality into your home.
Starting Rotation
Before you even go check out the stores for inexpensive new home accessories, why not take what you already have and do some rearranging? Like many of us, the colour schemes in our homes are similar from the bedroom to the great room, so try taking the vase you have in your bedroom and placing it in a predominant spot in your great room. Fill it with a type of flower you’ve never bought before that will accent the colours throughout your home and suddenly you have a new look.
It can also be fun to rotate your accessories and colors seasonally. When spring and summer roll around, you may want to swap out your cranberry reds that look so rich in the fall and winter for a more vibrant red that screams fun and festive for the warmer spring and summer months. Remove the stark berry limbs in the tall vase you showcase on your coffee table in the winter and swap it out for bright forsythia limbs or long-stemmed tulips for the spring or summer. Suddenly, your home will have a refreshing new feel without much change at all. If your home is mainly neutral with accent colours, it can be fast and easy to swap out the pillows on the couch, the candles in their holders and the vases on the tables for new colour combinations at anytime. Neutral doesn’t have to be boring!
If you have a little more energy and want to make a bigger impact, then rearrange the furniture in your home. Try positioning the bed opposite the door in your bedroom. This will make the focal point of the room more prominent. Try using tables from other rooms for nightstands or bedside tables. Also, taking a piece of furniture in a room that has been placed flush against the wall and moving it so it is angled coming out from a corner can really change the look of the space. Angling a desk or the bed in the corner adds a whole new spin.
Get A Face Lift
Maybe your kitchen or laundry room cabinets seem a little outdated or need refinishing. Instead of taking on this backbreaking chore yourself to save some money or emptying the bank to hire a professional, think about simply changing the fronts of the cabinets for a quick, less expensive style makeover. If you stick with the same manufacturer, you’d be surprised how easy this can be. And for another option that can transform your kitchen for little cost, try just swapping out the old handles for something more current and it will add a fresh take on your kitchen environment too.
First Impressions
Little changes that can make a big impact not only work great on the inside of your home, but translate well on the outside too. For a quick change to your home’s curb appeal, try giving your front door a new coat of paint in a different colour and you’ll see what a difference it can make. Whether you lighten the colour, make it bolder, or change it to a basic black, your home’s facade will feel delightfully different.
In the backyard or patio space, small accessories can fill the area with tons of personality. Unique lanterns or an outdoor rug instantly alter the vibe and make your backyard oasis feel more like home.
Colour Your World
It can create quite a statement when you take accessories or household items all in the same colour and group or arrange them together. Even if you have open shelving that is visible in your kitchen, try moving all the items that match in colour to the same location on the shelves and suddenly it doesn’t just look like utility shelving and storage, it looks like you had a plan. You instantly create visual interest by organizing your home’s existing items in a whole new way.

Another inexpensive and fast way to add style to your home is to change out some rugs. Much easier than replacing carpeting throughout a home, buying a few new rugs in bold prints or colours will offer a new personality into your interior spaces whether it’s a hallway, dining area or bath.
Make An Impact
Add new life to a space with paint. Whether you paint one accent wall or the entire room, there are many different ways to play with paint to make a dramatic change without spending a ton of cash. Try painting one piece of furniture for a bold change. Or, paint only the shelves of a bookcase in a bold colour for a playful feel. Even selecting one hallway or wall in a “boring” area of your home will add instant appeal.
Before canvassing the department stores and local home accessory boutiques, take the ideas above and implement them. I bet you will find out that all you thought you needed to make your home feel exciting and new again was already there just waiting to be born again!
